A rotating variable-pitch screw inside a wedge-wire screen basket moves material from the inlet toward the discharge end. As the screw pitch decreases, material is progressively compressed. Liquid passes through the screen apertures under pressure and is collected below. The dewatered solid cake exits from the discharge port. No filter media, chemicals, or batch cycles are required in most applications.
A centrifuge uses high-speed rotation (typically 2,000–4,000 rpm) to separate solids and liquids through centrifugal force. It generally achieves lower output moisture but consumes significantly more energy, requires more maintenance, and is less suitable for fibrous or abrasive materials. A screw press operates at 2–20 rpm, uses 70–85% less power per unit of throughput for organic and agricultural materials, and handles fibrous materials (manure, spent grain, crop waste) far better. For most farm and food processing applications, the screw press is more practical and cost-effective.
Continuously. Material is fed from one end and discharged at the other without interruption. Many installations run 16–24 hours per day with automated feed pumps and minimal operator intervention. There is no warm-up, cycle, or reset procedure between loads.
It depends on particle size relative to the screw clearance and screen aperture. For material with solid particles larger than 25–30 mm, a pre-shredder or coarse screen upstream is recommended to protect the machine. Our standard screen aperture is 0.75 mm - this is our recommended default for most materials. A 1.0 mm screen gives higher dewatering rates but more solids in the filtrate. A 0.5 mm screen produces cleaner filtrate but slightly lower dewatering efficiency. We adjust aperture based on fibre length and material characteristics, confirmed by test results.
The primary selection factors are: (1) daily throughput required (m3/h or tonnes/day), (2) material type and feed moisture content, (3) available power supply (voltage and frequency), and (4) available space. For materials with fibre length below 3 cm, no pre-treatment is typically required. For materials with fibre length exceeding 3 cm, we recommend pre-shredding or crushing. Machines are shipped by sea freight in standard 20' or 40' containers, or as LCL (less-than-container load) for smaller units. Export packaging is included: the machine is treated with anti-corrosion coating, bolted to a timber skid, and enclosed in a wooden crate or wrapped in protective film.
